What we do and how we do it matters — for people and the planet.

Our world is shaped by what people do for and at work. And yet, we’re still supposed to believe some outdated 1970s perspective that the only “social responsibility of business is to increase its profits?”

Please. The idea that we should (or could) separate what we stand for and what we do for work would be laughable if it wasn’t still so pervasive. Whether you’re on the clock on not, the impact you make is still yours. And what’s most important to you personally doesn’t magically become less so when you log in to work in the morning.

That’s a good thing! Your care for the world, if you lean into it, can help you create better, more inclusive products and solutions. It can help make workplaces work for actual human beings. And it can fuel strong business results to boot. Consumers are (rightly) expecting a lot more from companies today than empty promises and marketing. Companies need people who can lead the way.

It starts with understanding and leading through your values

And by values I mean what's good, desirable and important to you in life. Not the things that you think you should care about, or the things society says you should care about, but the things you really do care about.

It’s not enough to have a vague sense of what matters to you. When it comes to leading from your values, specificity matters. When you’re crystal clear on what’s important to you and why:

  • You can see clearly which companies and roles align with what’s important to you

  • You have a better handle on the team environment you’re trying to create and contribute to

  • You can finally understand why certain things at work get underneath your skin (and figure out how to productively move forward)

  • You are better able to handle stress and prevent burnout

  • You can communicate better with your colleagues

  • You know what to advocate for and when to speak up

But Leaders aren’t the only ones who benefit from values awareness

When the members of your team are connected to their personal values and have co-created what’s important to them as a group:

  • They build stronger relationships with each other and benefit from mutual trust

  • They have shared language for addressing conflict

  • They are better able to weather stressful periods at work

  • There’s a built-in framework for development and career conversations

  • I spent a decade consulting for and working within organizations, helping them find, keep, and grow amazing people. I’ve had roles across the HR spectrum, working in such varied areas as leadership development, change management & communications, people analytics, operations, talent acquisition, compensation, and diversity, equity, & inclusion.

  • I’ve seen a lot of workplaces. I started my career at Deloitte Consulting and have since worked in public education (at the Oakland Unified School district) in Tech (at Cisco Meraki) and at a boutique consulting firm focused on Total Rewards & Benefits (The Nua Group). That’s not to mention the organizations I’ve worked for as a consultant in industries as varied as Energy, Biotech, Healthcare, and Logistics.

  • I know what it’s like to manage a team. I’ve been a manager and have trained new managers. New leaders are one of my favorite groups to work with.

  • I try not to take myself too seriously, but I do take my work seriously. I completed over 200 training hours to become a Certified Professional Co-Active Coach and I am an ICF Associate Certified Coach. I also hold the SHRM Senior Certified Professional credential. Learning & growth is a value of mine, and I spend a large portion of my time making myself better so that I can better serve you.
